MY FUN FACTS
I did not win the primary election when I ran for mayor in 2017 and lost re-election in 2024 for District 2. Questions have also been raised regarding my involvement in the Patty Cummings incident and my decision to avoid the city-hired investigator’s review. Additionally, I have faced criticism for missing votes, including instances where I left to go to the bathroom.
LEGAL TROUBLES/HISTORY
In April 2020, Portfolio Recovery Associates, LLC filed a debt collection lawsuit against Dan Sheppard in Lee County Court. The complaint alleged that Sheppard had opened a Synchrony Bank credit account, that the account had been charged off in June 2018, and that an outstanding balance of $1,862.70 remained unpaid. The lawsuit sought recovery of the alleged debt along with court costs. A Synchrony Bank account statement was attached to the complaint reflecting the balance and payment history.
However, the case did not proceed to judgment. On December 9, 2020, Portfolio Recovery Associates filed a Notice of Voluntary Dismissal with prejudice and without costs as it pertained to Dan Sheppard. A dismissal with prejudice means the plaintiff permanently dismissed the claim and generally cannot refile the same lawsuit against him. The filing does not state the reason for the dismissal.
