"The Milkshake Bandit"
In October 2009, Sean David Hartman earned the nickname "The Milkshake Bandit" after an unusual late-night burglary at a McDonald's in Cape Coral, Florida. According to police, the 18-year-old threw rocks through the restaurant's glass door to gain entry, intending to make himself a milkshake. His plan failed when he couldn't operate the machine and instead spilled milkshake mix across the floor.
Not willing to leave empty-handed, Hartman reportedly filled a cup with Dr Pepper before walking out of the restaurant. In an ironic twist, investigators said he later returned to the McDonald's as a customer and casually asked employees what had happened to the broken front door, pretending to know nothing about the overnight break-in.
The case unraveled shortly afterward when Hartman was detained at a nearby Publix for allegedly attempting to steal a six-pack of Diet Dr Pepper and a four-pack of Yoo-hoo. During the investigation, police said he confessed to the McDonald's burglary. He was arrested on charges including burglary, criminal mischief, and petit theft.
The bizarre circumstances surrounding the failed milkshake heist quickly attracted national media attention, cementing Hartman's place in Cape Coral folklore as the infamous "Milkshake Bandit."
